Buying Guide: The Mirka Sanding System
Abranet Mesh Abrasives
Traditional sandpaper uses a solid paper backing with a few punched holes for dust extraction, which frequently clogs. Mirka Abranet is a polyamide fabric mesh. Because the entire surface is a net, a vacuum can pull dust directly through the abrasive across the entire face of the disc. This prevents "pilling" (which causes deep scratches) and extends the life of the disc by up to 300%.
Mirka DEROS Sanders
The Mirka DEROS is the lightest, most ergonomic brushless electric random orbital sander on the market. Unlike tall, top-heavy sanders, the DEROS features a low-profile design that puts your hand closer to the surface, offering unparalleled control when flattening clear coat or shaping body lines.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a pad saver to use Mirka Abranet?
Yes, a pad saver is highly recommended. Because Abranet is a mesh, the "hooks" on your expensive sander backing pad can protrude through the net and wear down against the work surface. A thin Mirka pad saver acts as a sacrificial barrier, protecting your backing pad without restricting dust extraction.
Can I use Mirka Abranet discs on any brand of sander?
Absolutely. Because Abranet is a full mesh, it doesn't matter what hole pattern your sander's backing pad has (5-hole, 8-hole, 15-hole, etc.). The vacuum will simply pull the dust through the mesh wherever the holes on your specific sander happen to align.
